Internal Auditor – Compliance & Risk Management

About the role

Paymentwall Latvia is looking for an experienced Internal Auditor to join its compliance and risk management team. The role focuses on evaluating internal controls, governance, and risk frameworks to ensure compliance with EU and Latvian regulations for payment institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk‑based annual audit plan approved by the Board.
• Conduct independent audits across Compliance, Risk, Finance, Operations, and IT.
• Assess design and effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate operational, ICT, and financial crime risks.
• Review policies and procedures for alignment with PSD2, AMLD5/6, GDPR, DORA and Bank of Latvia requirements.
• Identify control gaps, issue audit findings with recommendations, and follow up on remediation actions.
• Prepare and present audit reports to senior management and the Board, highlighting emerging risks.
• Support regulatory inspection preparations and collaborate with external auditors and supervisory authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Law, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in internal audit, risk management or compliance within financial services or fintech.
• Strong knowledge of EBA guidelines (EBA/GL/2021/05, EBA/GL/2019/02), DORA, PSD2 and relevant Latvian regulations.
• Professional certifications such as CIA, CISA or ACCA are a plus.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Latvian.
• High ethical standards and independent judgment.
