Chief Risk Officer

About the role

The Chief Risk Officer will lead the development and continuous improvement of the enterprise risk management framework for a leading European electronic money institution. Reporting directly to the Executive Management and the Board, the CRO is responsible for strengthening risk oversight, operational resilience and supporting sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and enhance the Enterprise Risk Management Framework in line with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
• Conduct enterprise‑wide risk assessments across products, services, operations, partnerships and new initiatives.
• Identify, monitor and mitigate operational, credit and other risks while fostering a risk‑aware culture.
• Maintain the Risk Appetite Framework, define Key Risk Indicators and oversee risk reporting to senior management and the Board.
• Manage credit risk exposure, including bank concentration, counter‑party and financial institution limits.
• Provide independent risk oversight during regulatory assessments, internal reviews, external audits and compliance checks.
• Coordinate third‑party risk assessments and ensure timely implementation of recommendations.
• Review new products, partnerships and strategic projects from a risk perspective before launch.

Required profile

• 5+ years of risk management experience within EMIs, payment institutions, banking or other regulated financial services.
• Previous experience as a Head of Risk, Enterprise Risk Manager or senior risk leader.
• Strong knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk, Credit Risk and Corporate Governance frameworks.
• Proven ability to perform enterprise‑wide risk assessments and implement risk control frameworks.
• Understanding of safeguarding requirements, counter‑party risk management and banking exposure monitoring.
