Automation Engineer – Smart Manufacturing

About the role

We are looking for an Automation Engineer to take technical ownership of our in‑house automation equipment at our Riga facility. You will ensure equipment availability, reliability, safety and maintainability while driving continuous improvement in manufacturing performance.

Key responsibilities

• Program, commission, troubleshoot and optimise FANUC, ABB, Nachi and Stäubli industrial robots, including paths, I/O, interlocks and safety interfaces.
• Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC/HMI software across Siemens and, preferably, Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, Beckhoff platforms.
• Integrate and troubleshoot machine‑vision systems, cameras, lighting, barcode/QR readers and inspection logic.
• Select, configure and troubleshoot sensors, encoders, servo drives, VFDs, safety devices, actuators, valves, vacuum and pneumatic systems.
• Design and modify machine parts, fixtures, guarding and layouts using SolidWorks and 2D CAD; prepare drawings, BOMs and technical specifications.
• Lead automation projects from concept through risk assessment, design, procurement, FAT/SAT, commissioning, hand‑over and stabilisation.
• Integrate new equipment into existing lines, including PLC, robot, vision, printing, inspection and MES/traceability interfaces.
• Perform structured fault finding, root‑cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Drive measurable improvements in OEE, cycle time, changeover, scrap, ergonomics and process stability.

Required profile

• Strong technical ownership of automation equipment and a proactive approach to reliability.
• Ability to lead projects end‑to‑end and work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with structured fault finding and root‑cause analysis.

Required skills

• FANUC, ABB, Nachi, Stäubli industrial robots.
• Siemens PLC programming; familiarity with Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, Beckhoff platforms.
• Machine‑vision integration, barcode/QR reading.
• Sensors, encoders, servo drives, VFDs, safety devices, actuators, valves, vacuum and pneumatic systems.
• SolidWorks and 2D CAD design.
