Privacy Engineering Director

About the role

DuckDuckGo is seeking a senior leader to own and drive the most complex privacy engineering challenges across its products. As the Privacy Engineering Director you will have end‑to‑end ownership of high‑stakes privacy projects, shaping the future of private browsing, search, and AI‑assisted workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Define, lead, and deliver high‑complexity privacy initiatives from concept through production.
• Evolve privacy triage, review, and audit processes to improve speed and rigor.
• Build automation and infrastructure that reduces engineering toil and supports data‑minimisation at scale.
• Mentor and grow the next generation of privacy engineers, handling hiring and performance management.
• Contribute to company‑wide privacy strategy and collaborate cross‑functionally with product, legal, and security teams.

Required profile

• 10+ years leading privacy reviews, audits, or technical privacy programs for consumer‑facing products with >1 M users.
• 4+ years of privacy‑engineering leadership experience building privacy‑preserving infrastructure.
• Director, Head, or VP‑level experience with direct management and hiring responsibilities.
• Proven ability to drive high‑complexity, cross‑functional projects with minimal direction.
• Strong communication skills and a passion for raising the standard of trust online.
