Senior Software Applications Engineer (UAV)

About the role

Redwire Corporation, a global space and defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Applications Engineer to lead the development of mission‑critical operator software for autonomous UAV systems. The role will shape architecture, strategy, and evolution of ground‑system applications across multiple UAS product lines.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain application software for mission‑critical UAS systems.
• Contribute to system architecture decisions, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
• Integrate software components with cross‑functional teams (autonomy, avionics, test, production).
• Implement and maintain APIs, data pipelines, and operator‑facing features.
• Debug and resolve complex telemetry, performance, and integration issues.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Support system integration, testing, and validation activities.
• Improve UI/UX for operator‑facing applications.
• Break down technical requirements into actionable development tasks.
• Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong background building and maintaining complex autonomy, GNC, or ground control systems.
• Proficiency in one or more core languages such as Python, C#, or C++.
• Experience with UI/visualization frameworks (Qt, WPF, WinUI, or similar).
• Solid understanding of real‑time data processing, multi‑threading, and networked systems.
• Experience with distributed communication frameworks (DDS, ZeroMQ, MAVLink, ROS2).
• Familiarity with software architecture principles, modular design, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version‑control systems.
