Senior Ground Control Software Engineer (UAV)

About the role

Redwire Defense Tech is looking for an experienced Senior Ground Control Software Engineer to enhance its UAV Ground Control Station (GCS). You will create the primary interface that pilots use to monitor aircraft health, plan flight paths, and ensure safe operations under dynamic constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain features for the GCS software.
• Implement user‑facing functionality for aircraft status monitoring and flight control.
• Contribute to GUI development, communication interfaces, and supporting algorithms.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate software with UAV systems.
• Work with flight test teams and operational users to gather requirements and improve usability.
• Troubleshoot telemetry, communication links, and system performance issues.
• Support integration, testing, and validation in real‑world and simulated environments.
• Write clean, well‑tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and help improve development practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong background in developing complex applications (frontend, backend, or full‑stack).
• Experience with real‑time systems, networking, and data communication.
• Familiarity with UAV/UAS communication protocols such as MAVLink or DDS.

Required skills

• Programming languages: TypeScript, C++, Python, C#.
• UI frameworks: React, Angular, Vue, Qt, WPF.
• Version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
• Modular software design and maintainable architectures.
• Debugging and problem‑solving in distributed systems.
