Head of Legal

About the role

The Head of Legal will steer the legal strategy of an international FinTech company operating across multiple jurisdictions, including Latvia and Cyprus. Reporting to senior management, you will ensure regulatory compliance, support business growth, and shape cross‑border operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the legal function in Latvia, Cyprus and other relevant jurisdictions.
• Advise founders, the board and senior executives on strategic legal, regulatory and commercial matters.
• Structure cross‑border operations, inter‑company relationships and financial arrangements.
• Collaborate with the CFO on corporate, tax and transfer‑pricing structures.
• Support EMI business, manage regulatory interactions with the Latvian Bank and other authorities.
• Provide guidance on merchant relationships, PSPs, processors, financial institutions and card schemes.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial, payment and partnership agreements.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks and develop practical mitigation solutions.
• Coordinate external legal, tax and regulatory advisors when specialized expertise is required.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in payments, EMI, PSP, FinTech, banking or other regulated financial services.
• Deep understanding of the international payments ecosystem, merchant relationships and card‑scheme environments.
• Strong knowledge of European and international financial and corporate law.
• Experience with cross‑border corporate structures, inter‑company arrangements and transfer‑pricing principles.
• Proven track record in commercial contract negotiation and drafting.
• Familiarity with Visa, Mastercard or other card‑scheme environments (highly desirable).
• Experience working with the Latvian Bank or other European financial regulators (advantageous).
• Result‑oriented, proactive problem‑solver with a strong sense of responsibility.

Required skills

• Expertise in European financial regulations and EMI/PI regulatory frameworks.
• Knowledge of corporate, tax and transfer‑pricing law.
• Understanding of card‑scheme operations (Visa, Mastercard, etc.).
