ESG Risk Expert

About the role

Citadele Banka is looking for an ESG Risk Expert to lead the management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks across the Group. You will act as the primary specialist on climate, environmental and ESG risk matters, translating regulatory requirements and group initiatives into practical risk solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate ESG and climate risks into the risk appetite, risk strategy and overall risk management framework, maintaining an up‑to‑date ESG risk policy.
• Conduct periodic ESG and climate risk materiality assessments and prepare briefing materials for the Board.
• Incorporate climate risk into ICAAP/ILAAP processes and climate stress‑testing, including preparation for EU‑wide climate stress tests.
• Develop and apply methodologies for environmental and climate risk assessment in credit underwriting, ESG questionnaires and client‑manager training.
• Design ESG data collection and management processes, ensure ESG reporting and disclosures (CRO report, Risk Strategy, 3rd Pillar) and respond to regulator requests.
• Maintain assessments of physical, transition and biodiversity/nature risks and support the transition plan and net‑zero initiatives.

Required profile

• Higher education in economics, finance, mathematics, business administration, banking or a related field.
• Experience in risk management, preferably within banking, financial services or sustainability/environmental management.
• Strong understanding of ESG and climate‑risk regulations (EBA guidelines, ECB handbook, EU taxonomy, ICAAP/ILAAP).
• Ability to work independently, set clear goals and take initiative.
• Excellent communication skills in English, capable of explaining ESG topics at a Baltic scale.
