VP of Legal

About the role

Paybis, a global fintech operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments, is seeking a Vice President of Legal to lead its legal function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will work closely with Compliance, Partnerships, Product, Finance, and Technology teams, as well as external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead two parallel EMI licence applications (Latvia and UK) from submission through RFI and decision.
• Own ongoing legal obligations under MiCA CASP and PSD2 licences, including governance, capital requirements, reporting, and marketing restrictions.
• Act as the internal legal counterpart to regulators such as Latvijas Banka, FCA, AUSTRAC, JFSC, FinCEN, and FINTRAC.
• Manage the Jersey and Australia licence pipelines.
• Interpret MiCA regulations across 27 EU member states and oversee passporting mechanics.
• Oversee external regulatory counsel relationships, briefing and quality‑controlling advice.
• Support the Global Chief of Compliance on AML/CTF frameworks, SAR obligations, data retention, and regulatory reporting.
• Own the B2B partner legal framework and commercial contract pipeline.

Required profile

• Senior lawyer with extensive experience in regulatory, commercial, and corporate law within the fintech or crypto sector.
• Proven track record of managing complex licence applications and regulator relationships.
• Ability to provide strategic legal guidance and act as a senior voice for the business.
