Senior Ground Control Software Engineer (UAV)

About the role

Redwire Defense Tech is looking for an experienced Senior Ground Control Software Engineer to enhance the Ground Control Station (GCS) that manages multiple autonomous UAVs. You will create the primary user interface that ensures safe, mission‑focused flight operations while handling complex constraints such as airspace, weather, and communication limits.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain new features for the GCS software.
• Implement user‑facing functionality for aircraft health monitoring and flight‑path control.
• Contribute to GUI development, communication interfaces, and supporting algorithms.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate software with UAV systems.
• Work with flight‑test teams and operators to gather requirements and improve usability.
• Troubleshoot telemetry, link, and performance issues in real‑world and simulated environments.
• Write clean, well‑tested code and participate in code reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and help refine development practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong background in developing complex applications (frontend, backend, or full‑stack).
• Experience with real‑time systems, networking, and data communication.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment.

Required skills

• Programming languages: TypeScript, C++, Python, C#.
• UI frameworks: React, Angular, Vue, Qt, WPF.
• UAV/UAS communication protocols such as MAVLink or DDS.
• Version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
• Understanding of modular software design and maintainable architectures.
