OSS Data Engineer

About the role

AST SpaceMobile is building a global cellular broadband network in space. We are looking for an OSS Data Engineer to design, build, and operate a unified data platform that serves both network‑operational telemetry and commercial business data.

Key responsibilities

• Build and deploy streaming ingestion pipelines using Apache Flink, CDC techniques, and AWS Glue Schema Registry, including validation and dead‑letter handling.
• Design, maintain, and optimize raw, curated, and served data layers, balancing query performance (Athena/Redshift) with storage cost and freshness.
• Manage table maintenance, compaction, and partitioning strategies as data volume grows.
• Develop SQL transformations and dimensional models that integrate multiple data sources.
• Define schema for new data domains and translate data models into working ingestion and transformation logic.
• Implement data‑quality tests covering freshness, completeness, and schema conformance across pipelines.
• Build and maintain BI/serving layers for internal stakeholders, including dashboards, ad‑hoc queries, and periodic reports.
• Provide clean, governed datasets for AI/ML use cases such as capacity forecasting and predictive maintenance.
• Document data models, pipeline architecture, and governance controls for internal and partner‑facing datasets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 4 + years of professional data‑engineering experience, combining streaming and batch pipeline development.
• Production experience with Apache Flink or an equivalent stream‑processing engine.
