GNC Engineer – PX4 Flight Tuning

About the role

Redwire Corporation is seeking a skilled Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer to lead PX4 flight‑control tuning for a range of UAV platforms. You will work closely with the UAV development team to optimise attitude, rate and position controllers and ensure reliable autonomous flight performance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced PX4 firmware tuning for attitude, rate, and position controllers across multirotor, fixed‑wing and VTOL aircraft.
• Conduct flight performance evaluations, analyse log data and implement tuning improvements for stability and mission requirements.
• Develop, refine and validate GNC algorithms, including sensor fusion and EKF‑based state estimation.
• Integrate and calibrate sensors such as IMUs, GPS/GNSS, magnetometers, barometers and vision‑based systems.
• Run SITL/HITL simulations (ROS/ROS2, Gazebo, JMAVSim, AirSim) to verify tuning before hardware deployment.
• Support flight‑test operations, prepare tuning configurations, monitor in‑flight behaviour and troubleshoot anomalies.
• Document tuning processes, control logic, validation results and contribute to PX4 firmware enhancements.

Required profile

• 3+ years of hands‑on experience in GNC engineering, UAV flight control or autonomous systems.
• Strong knowledge of control theory, aircraft dynamics and sensor fusion.
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, robotics, control systems or a related field.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and documentation skills.
• Proficient English communication, both spoken and written.
