Anesthesiology Department Head Nurse

About the role

The Anesthesiology Department Head Nurse leads the nursing team in the only children’s hospital in Latvia. This senior position ensures high‑quality patient care, staff development, and compliance with national regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize and supervise the department’s daily operations, guaranteeing continuous and safe patient care.
• Lead and develop the nursing team, including onboarding new staff and students, evaluating performance and planning professional growth.
• Ensure all care processes meet regulatory standards, internal policies and evidence‑based practices.
• Identify and mitigate risks, participate in quality audits and drive improvement projects.
• Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of medical and nursing documentation.
• Analyze departmental data and prepare reports for management.

Required profile

• Second‑level higher education in nursing or health sciences (master’s degree preferred).
• Registered nurse status (LR Medical Personnel Register).
• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in anesthesia/intensive care.
• At least 1 year of leadership experience.
• Proficient Latvian and English for professional literature and international collaboration.
• Computer literacy (MS Office) and compliance with child‑rights and national security legislation.
