About the role
The Refugee Health & Social Integration Intern will support IRC case management teams in assisting refugees and vulnerable immigrants as they navigate the U.S. healthcare system and other essential services. This summer position offers hands‑on experience in client assessment, service planning, and community outreach.
Key responsibilities
- Assess client needs, develop service plans, and provide ongoing case management.
- Accompany clients to appointments with lawyers, healthcare providers, and public benefit agencies.
- Conduct community mapping to identify external resources and refer clients accordingly.
- Participate in outreach activities to locate potential clients and raise IRC visibility.
- Maintain quality control of client files and perform other assigned tasks.
Required profile
- Commitment of at least 3 months; 15 hours/week minimum (30 hours/week preferred).
- In‑person work required with reliable personal vehicle, valid U.S. driver’s license, and active insurance.
- Ability to work independently under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Interest in human rights and proven teamwork skills.
- Willingness to use public transportation with clients.
- Proficiency in Arabic, Amharic, Tigrinya, Swahili, Farsi or French is desirable.
