Guidance, Navigation & Control Engineer – PX4 Configuration

About the role

Redwire Corporation is seeking a skilled Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer with deep experience in PX4 flight‑control systems to join its UAV development team. You will be responsible for configuring, tuning, and validating PX4 autopilot settings across multiple UAV platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Configure, tune, and optimise PX4 autopilot parameters for various UAV airframes.
• Set up flight‑control architectures, mixer configurations, sensor suites and system parameters within PX4.
• Conduct functional testing in SITL/HITL simulation environments and analyse flight logs to troubleshoot and refine configurations.
• Integrate and calibrate critical sensors such as IMUs, GPS/GNSS, magnetometers, barometers and companion‑computer inputs.
• Validate system performance through ground tests and support flight‑test teams during verification.
• Implement configuration updates and support firmware adjustments as required.
• Maintain accurate configuration documentation for production and engineering teams.
• Collaborate with avionics, software and hardware groups to ensure PX4 settings meet airframe and mission needs.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in UAV flight‑control systems, GNC engineering or embedded control configuration.
• Hands‑on expertise with PX4 setup, configuration and calibration across multiple airframe types.
• Strong understanding of flight dynamics, control theory and sensor‑fusion concepts.
• Proficiency with QGroundControl, MAVLink protocols and PX4 log‑analysis tools.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink, Python or C++ for control analysis or scripting.
• Familiarity with UAV simulation environments such as Gazebo, JMAVSim or AirSim.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot sensor issues, configuration errors and flight‑control anomalies.
• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, robotics, control systems or a related field.
