Data Science Manager

About the role

GoCardless is looking for a Data Science Manager to lead its Payment Intelligence team. You will partner with engineers, product managers and designers to turn data‑driven ideas into production‑ready machine‑learning solutions that power real‑time payment decisions worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a high‑performing team of Data Scientists, fostering technical excellence and career growth.
• Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of mission‑critical ML models, from prototype to production deployment on Google Cloud Platform.
• Define and execute the strategic roadmap for payment intelligence, translating complex data challenges into high‑impact goals.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to design and deliver end‑to‑end technical solutions.
• Communicate ML strategy and business value to senior leadership.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience managing Data Scientists in high‑stakes, data‑intensive domains.
• Hands‑on technical leader comfortable reviewing code and guiding model development.
• Strong collaborator able to navigate technical trade‑offs and explain ML concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Passion for fintech, fraud prevention and payment optimisation at scale.
