Senior Software Applications Engineer (UAV)

About the role

Redwire Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Applications Engineer to lead the development of mission‑critical operator software for autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles. The role combines deep system‑integration expertise with UI/UX design to deliver scalable, real‑time ground control solutions across multiple UAS product lines.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain application software for mission‑critical UAS systems.
• Define and influence system architecture, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
• Integrate software components with cross‑functional teams, implementing APIs, data pipelines, and operator‑facing features.
• Debug and resolve complex telemetry, performance, and integration issues.
• Participate in code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and support CI/CD pipelines.
• Assist in system integration, testing, validation, and UI/UX improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in autonomy, GNC, or ground control systems.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and work across cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Python, C#, C++.
• UI/visualization frameworks: Qt, WPF, WinUI (or similar).
• Real‑time data processing, multi‑threading, and networked systems.
• Distributed communication: DDS, ZeroMQ, MAVLink, ROS2.
• Software architecture, modular design, and DevOps practices (CI/CD, version control).
