Observability Platform Engineer
Mirantis · Riga
Job description
About the role
Mirantis is building its Neocloud service, which manages large-scale infrastructure to a high SLA for customers running demanding compute workloads. As the offering grows, so does the volume and complexity of telemetry that must be collected, correlated and acted on. The Observability Platform Engineer designs and builds the monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting platform that operations teams rely on to detect and resolve incidents quickly, in a hands-on, build-it role.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and operate observability components (metrics, logging, distributed tracing, alerting) for large-scale infrastructure
- Build telemetry pipelines for high-cardinality, high-volume data, balancing cost, retention and query performance
- Define and implement SLO/SLI frameworks and alerting strategies that reduce noise and surface real signal to on-call engineers
- Work with service delivery and operations teams to build what they need during incidents, not just dashboards nobody opens
- Integrate observability tooling with incident management, root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews
- Improve detection speed and reduce MTTD and MTTR
- Contribute to the roadmap for AI-assisted operations tooling such as automated triage and anomaly detection
- Own the reliability, scalability and security of the observability stack, and document architecture, runbooks and operational practices
Required profile
- Proven experience designing and building observability platforms for large-scale production infrastructure, not just using an existing setup
- Experience with high-volume telemetry pipelines and their trade-offs (cardinality, retention, cost, query latency)
- Strong software engineering skills in at least one common language (e.g. Go, Python, Rust)
- Solid understanding of SLO/SLI, error budgets and alerting design
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where the platform is built alongside the infrastructure it monitors
- Preferred: GPU/HPC observability, eBPF tooling, AIOps/ML anomaly detection, managed services or MSP experience, and open-source contributions
Required skills
- Metrics, logging and distributed tracing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki, Thanos/Cortex/Mimir, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Jaeger/Tempo
- Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure
What we offer
- Work with an established Silicon Valley leader in cloud infrastructure and with passionate colleagues serving Fortune 500 and Global 2000 customers
- Cutting-edge open-source work in a young, collaborative company
- Professional development, training, conferences and working groups
- Company outings, hackathons and tech talks
- Competitive compensation with a strong benefits plan
