Lead of Prototyping – Unmanned Aircraft Systems

About the role

RedWire Defense Tech is looking for an experienced Lead of Prototyping to head its Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) prototyping department. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, improve manufacturing processes, and work closely with R&D, NPI engineering, and flight operations to deliver high‑quality prototypes and research assets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the prototyping department and mentor technicians in CNC machining, composites, and mechanical assembly.
• Optimize production and prototyping technologies, ensuring sustainable operation of machinery, spare parts, and consumables.
• Participate in product development with a focus on manufacturability, usability, and testing.
• Expand prototyping capabilities, workflows, and manage departmental assets, including R&D aircraft and equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, Electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, or UAS industries is preferred.
• Proven ability to lead teams or departments.
• Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
