Lead of Prototyping

About the role

Redwire Defense Tech is looking for an experienced Lead of Prototyping to head the prototyping department for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The role involves managing a multidisciplinary team, improving manufacturing processes, and collaborating closely with R&D, NPI engineering and flight operations to deliver high‑quality prototypes and R&D assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the prototyping department and oversee daily operations.
• Manage, mentor and develop a team of technicians covering CNC machining, composites and mechanical assembly.
• Improve and optimise production and prototyping technologies and processes.
• Ensure sustainable operation of the department, including machinery maintenance, spare‑parts and consumables management.
• Participate in product development with a focus on manufacturability and usability.
• Develop and expand prototyping capabilities and workflows.
• Support testing, validation and investigative activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, Electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience in aerospace, defence or UAS industries is preferred.
• Proven experience leading teams or departments.
• Strong technical understanding of manufacturing and prototyping processes.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
