About the role
The International Rescue Committee seeks a qualified Kinyarwanda/Kiswahili Interpreter to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and their service providers. This position supports a range of settings, including clinics, schools, community organizations, and government agencies.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver in‑person, telephone, video‑conference, or virtual interpretation for LEP clients.
- Maintain accurate records of assignments and work hours using designated software.
- Participate in training sessions and performance assessments.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
Required profile
- High school diploma (preferred) and interpretation certification (preferred).
- Relevant professional interpretation experience, especially with refugee or immigrant populations.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to build trust.
- Reliable transportation to appointment locations.
Required skills
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Fluent spoken Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
