About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a proactive Department Manager to support the Chief Operating Officer and the Vice President of Policy & Advocacy. This senior administrative role ensures smooth operations, effective communications, and strategic coordination across the organization’s global advocacy team.
Key responsibilities
- Manage daily workflow for the COO and VP, P&A, optimizing calendars, correspondence, and follow‑up actions.
- Coordinate complex international travel, including flights, visas, accommodations, and ground transportation.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of departmental strategies and brief senior leaders weekly.
- Prepare meeting materials, reports, and talking points for senior executives, board members, and government officials.
- Serve as the central communications hub for the COO, designing and implementing internal communication strategies to foster a cohesive department culture.
- Support the global policy and advocacy team (US, UK, Belgium, Sweden, Germany) by streamlining processes and administrative procedures.
- Promote organizational culture and inclusion by facilitating open communication between leadership and staff.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in high‑level administrative or operations management supporting senior executives.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with a focus on efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work across time zones and coordinate international teams.
- Commitment to the mission of a humanitarian nonprofit and to fostering inclusive workplace culture.
